Wharc, Junic Hold A Capacity Building Programme In Minimally Invasive Surgery
Women’s Health and Action Research Centre (WHARC) has organized a training programme aimed at building capacity in Laparoscopic surgery. A collaborative initiative with JUNIC Laparoscopy, Australia. The training provided gynaecologist, surgical specialists and trainees in Nigeria an opportunity to learn and update their fundamentals of laparoscopic surgery with the overall goal of developing the capacity of local surgeons to safely and confidently perform minimally invasive surgery. The workshop which was themed ‘3-day capacity building programme in minimally invasive surgery’ was held at the WHARC Complex, from January 3 – January 5, 2018.
A first of its kind training program under the collaborative effort of WHARC and JUNIC has combined didactic lectures inclusive of reference articles and videos with an activity based curriculum; that focused on the fundamentals of basic and advanced laparoscopic surgical skills to train the participants. The program activities also include a live demonstration surgery under the preceptor ship of Dr Uche Menakaya and Dr Lanziz Homar, Australian based advanced laparoscopic surgeons. The training was well attended, and trainees were given opportunity for mentorship on laparoscopic surgery.
